Islamabad-based restaurants have resorted to ‘car dining’

As the ban on outdoor dining continues, restaurants are getting creative to pull through in these testing times for business. Since the ban on outdoor dining in April, few Islamabad-based restaurants have resorted to ‘car dining’.

The lockdown was bad enough for everyone financially and the ban on outdoor dining has restaurants concerned once again. Ramadan and holidays like Eid are when people usually go out to eat together, but the pandemic restrictions eat away at a chunk of good business days.

With the surge in Coronavirus cases despite the vaccination drive, the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) announced a ban on outdoor dining last month. That’s when eateries in Islamabad got creative and began offering ‘car dining’. Since takeaway options were available at many places, this new feature just elevated that idea.

Eateries like Street 1 Cafe are also advertising this dining option now. Take a look.

The idea actually emerged in a few Middle East restaurants first. In Pakistan, Lahore was the first to start offering ‘car dining’, and now the idea has made its way to the federal capital.

Meanwhile aside from drive-thrus, people stand in line outside their favorite eateries especially at popular dining sites in Rawalpindi like Banni Chowk, Raja Bazaar, etc to pick up their food before Sehri and Iftar.
