In an effort to promote tourism in the area, a 4G BaseTransceiver Station (BTS) has been installed at the K2 base camp area of Concordia, according to a The News report published Tuesday.
A 4G Base Transceiver Station (BTS) has been erected in Concordia’s K2 Base Camp area to improve mountaineering and trekking communication. The place is named after Ali Sadpara, a late high-altitude mountaineer who died on K2 earlier this year.
Mountaineers and trekking groups will benefit greatly from cellphone coverage and internet access, which will allow them to stay in touch with their families and assist them in emergency situations. It will also aid in the promotion of adventure tourism as well as weather forecasting.
The Special Communication Organization (SCO) has made it operational to ensure communication services at the base camp of the world’s second tallest mountain. It was inaugurated by Prime Minister Imran Khan during his recent visit to Gilgit-Baltistan.

In line with the government’s vision of promoting tourism across the country, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the telecom operators are focusing on improving telecommunication services in areas full of tourism potential.
The site was inaugurated by Prime Minister Imran Khan during his recent visit to Gilgit-Baltistan.
