Large processions on the 9th of Muharram were carried out across the country. These processions are to keep the memory of Karbala alive. Processions are also proceeding peacefully in the federal capital Islamabad as well as the provincial capitals. Moreover, different police and security forces are maintaining security arrangements. The government also appoints different police officers and personnel along the route.
Authorities made tight security arrangements to facilitate the processions. Suspension of mobile phone services along the routes of the main Muharram procession in Karachi, Quetta, and Lahore was due to security reasons. Furthermore, large processions will occur on 10th Muharram, day of Ashura, as well.
